BACK IT UP!

I have a new experience to share today. I was recently setting up a test website, basically a duplicate of my existing website, which uses Joomla for content management. Well as I'm installing Joomla, on a sub-directory on my hosting, I change configuration file to point at my existing database, so that it would copy over the content. Well as i am finishing up on the installation, Joomla asks if i want to install Sample data. I stupidly said YES. When doing this i totally wiped out my primary database and overwrote it with useless joomla sample articles. Needless to say this sucked! I hadn't created a backup since March, Yes I know, if i was messing with my Database, i should have backed it up. Even my wife told me so, and she knows absolutely nothing about it.

Luckily, i was able to retrieve most of my content (Thanks to Googles Cache). Only suffered the loss of a few member accounts and My virtuemart data. All of which can be replaced with a little time.

So the moral of this story is BACK IT UP!
