Some have lost jobs, homes, cars, its like a chain reaction that doesn't stop. Well i have a message for anyone out there, that has been laid off, and is sitting at home, wondering what to do next. How are you going to make a living? How are you going to survive? No one is hiring. How about this....Start your own business. Not a physical business, but an Internet business. Something you can manage from your sofa. Do you have a talent? Can you make jewelry? Give advice? Are you a decent salesman? Now
don't think I'm about to sell you one of those get rich quick scams, this is nothing like this. I am just sharing with you what has kept my head up after the economy crashed. Let me start with a story.... I have always had a fascination with computers, graphics and such. Its always been a hobby. Well in 2007 I was offered my dream job. I got a desk, a phone, a computer, and a plaque with my name on it. I was in the air condition. Just a side not all of my previous jobs were hard labor sweat your you know what off. Well this was a dream come true. I was working in the transportation dept for one of the largest firms in SW Florida. We were slammed, had a back log of work to last years, or so we thought. Well last year that company started to be effected by the halt in building, and development. I was in the transportation department and was told not to worry, we have back log. Well as the economy got worse, other companies got cheaper just to compete, suddenly our back log had deteriorated, needless to say i was laid off. BUT.......and this is a BIG BUT I had my hobby, and over the last couple years, had pretty much become a part time business, and was making me a little cash already. I had been entering design contests, and offering my services to friends and online acquaintances. I had even come up with a name "Skilled Graphics". Now don't think i wasn't upset or worried, remember after all, this was my "dream job" that just went down the drain. Well, I didn't hesitate. I used every resource I could come across to develop Skilled Graphics, into a profitable business. And over the last year Skilled Graphics has grown from a sapling, into a decent oak tree. Supporting my family and i full time. My wife quit her job and started helping me with business. We now work side by side from our living room. That's my story, and that's what i am offering you. One thing about Skilled Graphics is we are very affordable. VERY Affordable. If you have a talent, a skill, or just some an interest, you can make this work over time. Do i guarantee you will succeed? Heck No. But I do believe that with a good amount of initiative, and the right tools, you can do what you want. I'm not gonna beat around the bush anymore, this is what i am suggesting...With a good logo, and a professional website, you can start your online business now! I'm not even saying buy my services, I'm just saying try it. You can purchase our logo design service for $25, and a basic website starts at $110.00, Or you can go pay thousands if you like, its your choice. I'm just here to let you know, it can happen, and sometimes you don't know what your dream job is until you lose it. LETS GET IT STARTED!!!Good Luck My Friends, Dennis Bosher - Skilled Graphics Last Updated (Sunday, 06 September 2009 22:05) WEB 3.0!!We have all heard of web 2.0. Its an over used term to describe basically whats "IN" on the World Wide Web, it covers technology, graphics, and more. Well I have been doing some What is web 3.0?Web 3.0 is the third generation of Internet. Web 3.0 will be an extension of web 2.0, therefore web 2.0 is not going away, its just being enhanced. Web 3.0 will use a more intelligent system with "Natural Language Processing", and Machine based learning and reasoning, it will consist of many intelligent applications. Web 3.0 is a new way of searching the web. Instead of typing in keywords like " Grahic Designer" You will be able to be more specific and actually type full requests, like "I need a graphic designer capable of doing flash" After reading up on web 3.0, it made me question, what is web 2.0. As a graphic designer web 2.0 means, reflections, gradients, rounded fonts etc... After a bit of research the true defintion reveals itself. I read several definitions for web 2.0, none of which refered to graphics. Only software, applications, the internet. So before we move on to web 3.0, I think a few people should stop and take a second, to fully understand web 2.0. So.... What Is Web 2.0definitions from: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&newwindow=1&q=define%3AWeb+2.0&btnG=Search
With that being said..... Does web 2.0 apply to Graphics?Quick answer...Ab-Sol-Utely! Over time, styles change, over generations styles change. Its the same on the web. Graphics, and what is deemed "cool" or "in style" change over time. Look at the Mountain Dew logo, it has evolved quite a bit over time. As a designer, i am still getting a grasp on web 2.0, so my next question is one i can not answer.... What Does web 3.0 Have In Store For Graphic Designers? Are reflections out? Are drop shaddows going to make a comeback? I truly have no idea. I truly look forward to the Last Updated (Thursday, 21 January 2010 05:44) |
